Instructor Prerequisites


Certification Requirements (All levels), Instructor Candidates:

  • Have completed the prerequisites;
  • Are in possession of the latest logbook with all the registration seals, and understand the use of the logbook for an instructor teaching and certifying students;
  • Are aware of the requirements for registering certified students with the Association;
  • Can demonstrate proper methods of instruction for both shore-based and practical courses;
  • Can demonstrate the knowledge and skills for the Association standards, up to and including the levels they are certified to teach, by completing and passing:
    1.  Applicable written sail or power instructor examinations;
    2.  Applicable practical sail or power boat operation test;
  • Have signed the instructor code of ethics;
  • Have provided the registration fee and annual membership fees;
  • Have provided the cost of an instructor personalized seal;
  • Have been evaluated and passed by a current Instructor Evaluator and  registered with the Association.

competent Crew (Basic), Day Skipper (Intermediate), Coastal Navigation

Certification: Instruct and certify Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Navigator shore-based and practical courses.  

 

Application Prerequisites

  • The candidate must have completed Canadian Recreational Yachting Association, (the Association), Competent Crew, Day Skipper, and Coastal Navigation Certificates, and these certificates must be registered with the Association.
  • The candidate must also have completed the latest Association Competent Crew, Day Skipper, and Coastal Navigation workbooks and chart work, and be in possession of the latest Association logbook.
  • The candidate is responsible for meeting these prerequisites.

 

Coastal Skipper (Advanced)

Certification:  Instruct and certify Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Navigation, Coastal Skipper shore-based and practical courses.

 

Application Prerequisites

The candidate has completed: 

  • Canadian Recreational Yachting Association, (the Association), Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Navigation and Coastal Skipper Certificates and these certificates must be registered with the Association (See certificate registration procedure);
  • The latest Association Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Navigation and Coastal Skipper workbooks and be in possession of the latest Association logbook including registration seals and,
  • Canadian Recreational Yachting Association Competent Crew, Day Skipper Instructor clinic and is a registered Canadian Recreational Yachting Association instructor.
  • Instructed: a minimum of four Canadian Recreational Yachting Association Day Skipper courses.
